Galentine’s Day with Flowers and Furry Friends at Helping Hounds Rescue

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A little love and a lot of creativity came together at Helping Hounds Rescue Shelter’s Galentine’s Day event, where members of the community gathered for an afternoon of floral design and fundraising—all in support of giving rescue dogs a second chance.

The event, a hands-on flower arrangement workshop, provided attendees with a self-serve flower bar to craft their own unique bouquets. While it was a fun and festive way to celebrate Galentine’s Day, the heart of the event was about giving back to the shelter and helping its adoptable dogs find loving homes.

"We thought, well, flowers, Valentine's, love, and dogs—where can you go wrong?" said Bailey, one of the event organizers.

On an overcast Syracuse afternoon, the event provided a much-needed opportunity for people to come together, socialize, and support a cause. Helping Hounds has been a staple in the community for years, and for some attendees, the shelter holds a special place in their hearts.

"Helping Hounds has been a part of my life for a long time," said Sarah, who has adopted multiple dogs from the shelter with her family. "When I saw this event, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get out, see people, and be part of the community."

While the event aimed to encourage adoptions, organizers stressed that there are many ways to support the shelter. Donations from ticket sales and additional contributions help provide food, medical care, and other necessities for the animals.

"Donations keep the shelter running," said Meghan. "They also bring people in to meet the dogs, and sometimes that leads to finding them a forever home. It’s all connected."

For those considering adoption, the shelter encourages potential pet owners to take their time and find the right fit.

"Definitely do your research and reach out to local rescues," Bailey advised. "We’d love to have you visit Helping Hounds. I don’t think you’ll regret it."

Even for those who didn’t leave with a new furry friend, the event was a success—bringing together the community, raising funds, and spreading love in more ways than one. Helping Hounds continues to welcome visitors and adopters year-round, with more events planned in the future.

For those interested in adopting, donating, or volunteering, more information can be found on the shelter’s website.
